Newly Pregnant

You’re pregnant. Congratulations! You’re likely feeling elated, amazed, confused—or all three in brisk rotation. When it comes to preparing for this massive life change, you may not know where to begin.

While the Internet has opened up a world of information to expecting moms and their families, the abundance can be daunting, and frankly quite isolating. You will quickly realize how attitudes towards birth can both unite and polarize, and no matter how well you know yourself, it is perfectly reasonable to not know exactly what you want in terms of childbirth. Giving birth has the potential to be one of the most significant experiences of your life. We want to help make that a reality.

Choosing the right birth plan begins with exploring all of your options—and identifying what’s important to you. Learn about natural, cesarean, and assisted childbirth, and find supportive OB-GYNs, midwives, doulas, acupuncturists, chiropractors, and other providers. Consider what sorts of childbirth education classes are available in your area. You will want to find an experienced instructor who allows you to feel confident in the process. Learn about the pros and cons of medical interventions, and arm yourself with the evidence to help you make informed decisions.

To start planning your ideal birth experience and finding care providers capable of supporting that, read on.
